Mamdani, Antisemitism, And The Case For Aliyah
Mr. Mamdani seems to suggest that the simple act of immigrating to Israel somehow violates international law, a bewildering claim. He said this in the context of the recent scenes of violence and aggression outside New York synagogues. This is a glimpse of what Jewish life in New York may be forced to endure in the years ahead.
I’ll keep saying it as an immigrant myself: moving here is a wonderful idea. Israel is, in every sense, a Jewish state. Children grow up learning Hebrew and learn the Jewish tradition IN the Jewish tradition in tuition free PUBLIC schools. Synagogues receive municipal and national support, so community events are welcoming, abundant, and often cost next to nothing.
Healthcare is excellent, the food is excellent, and between the beaches, Jerusalem’s magic, and the endless stretches of nature, it’s hard not to be astonished every single day.
I’d also like to gently remind you that Israel is preparing (subject to Knesset approval) to grant new olim (immigrants) a five-year exemption from income tax. So instead of surrendering as much as 37% + 14% plus new Mamdani taxes from your paycheck, you could well, owe nothing in income tax. Israel is third in the world in tech salaries. So you can end up making way more money then you did in NYC. I missed out on this by immigrating too early 🫠 but it would be especially silly to miss out by immigrating too late.
