Meir Har-Zion, Israel's Biblical Warrior

🪖🇮🇱  Most soldiers follow orders. Meir Har-Zion made history by breaking them and the Prime Minister called him a biblical hero.

Born in 1934 in Herzliya, Meir Har-Zion was the ultimate warrior-poet: fearless, intense, and loyal to the core. He joined Unit 101, the elite commando unit created by Ariel Sharon to respond to terrorist attacks in the early years of the state.

Har-Zion quickly became its most celebrated fighter. He could navigate desert terrain without maps, complete missions injured, and strike with terrifying precision. By age 18, he had already participated in some of the most daring raids Israel had ever seen.

But it wasn’t just his skill that made him a legend, it was his unwavering sense of justice.

When terrorists brutally murdered his sister Shoshana during a hike, Har-Zion did what no one else would dare: He temporarily left his army post, tracked the killers deep into Jordanian territory, and returned battered, bloodied, but victorious, clutching their weapons as proof.

Suffice to say, unilaterally invading a neighboring country was very illegal. So for this he was arrested by Israel. But not convicted.

Why? Because even Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion said:

“This is a man of ancient times, like from the Bible. You don’t judge him by ordinary rules.”

Later despite being severely wounded in battle, he continued to train soldiers and mentor future leaders. His writings, filled with reflections on war, morality, and the land of Israel, are still studied today.

Meir Har-Zion remains a living testament to boundless bravery, fierce devotion to family, and an unbreakable connection to the land he defended with his life. His story challenges each of us, echoing through history and into our hearts:
